They come from TranzX and MPF. Both are smaller and lighter compared to other mid-motors from the two companies.

The new TranzX drive unit is the M17. With its maximum output of 85Nm it’s a mid-motor for eMTBs and other sports e-bikes. The made in Taiwan motor with integrated controller weighs 3.3 kg. and comes with an In-Tube battery.

The new MPF drive if focusing on city e-bikes. For that the MPF3 has an maximum output of 40Nm. The new mid-motor is 40 percent lighter and 20 percent smaller compared to other MPF motors. The MPF 3 weight is 2.9 kgs.

There have also been moves by governments around the world to offer subsidies for e-cargo bike purchase as a tool for encouraging their use as a congestion busting tool. 

Add to this high profile use by the likes of DHL and UPS logistics providers and it looks like the rise of the e-cargo bike is well and truly on its way.
